Cyber Threats, Influence Campaigns, & the Weaponizing of Social Media at the World Affairs Counc

I wanted to thank the World Affairs Council, Ronan O'Malley, Paul Williams, and all those who attended our "talk show" style presentation on "Cyber Threats, Influence Campaigns, & the Weaponizing of Social Media". We appreciated the interest, the questions, and the participation of everyone present. Thanks to the World Affairs Council and the HARC Woodlands for inviting us to share and for hosting this event.
From Russian interference in the U.S. presidential election to Cambridge Analytica covertly accessing the personal data of 87 Million Facebook users to the creation of bogus social media profiles and activist groups, cyber threats and social media forces are shaping the U.S. and the world in new and unknown ways.
Not many years ago, people were informed by a relatively small number of known media outlets. Today people receive news and other information from thousands of different and often unverified sources; and they also impact the discourse through their own comments and connections fostering a newly multi-polar media world. Likewise, nations and militaries traditionally fought for naval or air superiority, now ‘information superiority’ and the collection of, access to and dissemination of data is an ever growing concern for governments, economies and militaries.
